Seasons - Turn, Turn, Turn
To everything (turn, turn, turn)
There is a season (turn, turn, turn)
And a time to every purpose, under heaven
There is a season (turn, turn, turn)
And a time to every purpose, under heaven
A time to be born, a time to die
A time to plant, a time to reap
A time to kill, a time to heal
A time to laugh, a time to weep
A time to plant, a time to reap
A time to kill, a time to heal
A time to laugh, a time to weep
A time to gain, a time to lose
A time to rend, a time to sew
A time for love, a time for hate
A time for peace, I swear it's not too late
A time to rend, a time to sew
A time for love, a time for hate
A time for peace, I swear it's not too late

Whenever I think of the seasons changing I think of this song. I surprised first of all that it was not sung by the Beatles. I knew it came from the Bible, Ecclesiastes. I was also surprised to learn that the song was written by Pete Seeger.
We are approaching the end of Fall. I arrived at the end of Winter in March and have almost seen the whole cycle of seasons. I was pleasantly surprised to experience Spring. I realized it was Spring by two things that occurred. First the snow on the mountains receded all the way to the very tops and the second occurred when I looked out a window at the University Of Alaska Anchorage library and I realized that the trees had exploded bright green almost overnight.
Spring slid into Summer almost imperceptibly but when temperatures started getting into the upper 70's and 80's I knew it had arrived. The sun being out until midnight and felt like there were nights it never went all the way down is the hallmark of an Alaska Summer.
August brought a lot of rain and when it started to dissipate the trees started turning brown, gold, orange, and shades of red. I still haven't taken any great pictures of Fall which I better get on because it will snow any day now... The snow has arrived on the tops of the mountains and gets closer each day. We noticed snow on top of the Chugach foothills beside our house.
I'm looking forward to Winter because I'm sure the boys will enjoy playing in the snow, having snowball fights, making snow men, sledding, and riding on snow machines. I have a friend that has offered to teach me cross country skiing and I'm excited to learn. James wants to learn to ice skate and possibly play hockey, although he seems more inclined to broom hockey than the real thing. Be prepared to be inundated with snow pictures because as the Stark family says in Game of Thrones, "Winter is Coming!"
